Raising it higher would reduce variance, skill, and randomness from game play which is the antithesis of what the game wants to be. I think that exists now and that it would not with an increased level cap. Not every run is a success but a variety of builds should work so players can play the game the way they want. Everyone would pick the same build Swiftness 20, Mystic 20 and have a key item and invincible dashes.Īs the game is a Rogue type game I think the Devs are correct in keeping the level cap at 35. Raising the level cap to 40 would greatly lessen the difficulty and variety of the game. As the game currently stands I think its very possible to beat the game if you grind to Aegis 5 and play with a build you like rather than a build you have to use, even if you are playing Hard Mode. Those 5 additional skill points and skill trees opened up a greater variety of builds that could work when combined with the different costumes. When The Aegis Levels were added along with the additional skill trees the game got a lot more fair. Those were the only 2 builds that could work as they maximized advantage and minimized luck. The game was more unbalanced back then (luck was a huge factor in success) and a maximum level of 30 made it so you had either Mystic 20, Swiftness 10 as your stats or Swiftness 20, Greed 10. It took me dozens of hours in an earlier version of the game to beat it the first time. However, changing the level limit to 40 is not a plausible solution.Īs someone who has played the game since near launch, has hundreds of hours in the game, has unlocked everything (including all set bonuses), and speed runs the game (current WR holder), please allow me to provide my perspective. I think the source of your problem is that the general difficulty of the game is a bit too hard, especially after the recent update. And most builds are fine without abilities.

There are few items that almost 'require' particular skill trees, such as Dash Shield - Swiftness 20, but none of them require more than one skill tree. For instance if I have Light Bringer + Preparation for Perfection, or Wings + Spring Shoes, the game will be very easy no matter what skill tree I choose. For a good build you only need items with good synergies. Skill trees are not necessary part of a good build. I don't get what you mean by "All the good builds would require at least two maxed out skill trees". Other abilities are certainly helpful, but not necessary. And if you want to bring one item back, you have to give up other abilities. Well, for a roguelike game it is perfectly normal to lose all your items when you die.

It seems that you just want Mystic 20 ability(bring one item back) plus another ability. I think current ability system is pretty well balanced. The game will be too easy if we have two maxed-out skill trees, so they will have to make it harder, but then it will be too difficult for the newbies who start from level 1(i think it is already).
